Randy Lumia sold his snow blower, donated 95% of his winter clothing, and drove down from New Jersey with his wife, Susan, in their motorhome to sunny South Florida. That was almost 5 years ago. They have since settled into a life that is way more relaxed and warmer, than the cold and stressful Northeast.
Between Randy and Susan, they have 5 children. Randy’s 3 kids are all grown-up adults with lives of their own, and all are living in the Northeast.
When not working, Randy can be found somewhere in his yard, tending to one of the many fruit-baring trees that he is proud of and cultivates. And if he is not working in the yard, he’s riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle or traveling by plane, boat, motorhome, or car, to some part of the globe with his wife to experience new adventures!
Randy and his wife reside in Jupiter, FL. You can connect with Randy on LinkedIn.
In which generation do you belong?
Gen Jones: 1955 - 1964
Do you work? If so, what do you do?
If you enjoy what you do, you will never work a day in your life! Therefore, I guess I don't work! 😉
Kidding aside, I am currently the Vice-President of Human Resources & Organizational Effectiveness at Compliance Architects. I also serve as the President, COO, and People and Business Strategy Practice Lead at Paradise Workplace Solutions.
What would the 25-year-old version of you think of you today? How are you most different from him?
Growing up Catholic, I never imagined being a divorced father of 3 absolutely terrific children that are now young adults.
What has not changed about you?
I still have the same zest for love and life.
Good or bad, what about midlife has surprised you so far?
As a teenager and into early adulthood, I loved sleeping in late. Now, I go to bed early and LOVE to get up early. You feel so much more productive!
What one habit are you actively working on these days?
Trying to take more time to do nothing and spend more time with my wife.
What brings you the most joy these days and why?
Having a few "jobs" that rely more on "thinking" than "doing". I love doing yardwork outside around the house on weekends! I find it therapeutic.
What are you most excited about these days?
My wife and I love to travel and experience life and all it has to offer. We schedule one weekend a month to experience a new city/town/area in Florida. We love doing this. We also schedule 1 or 2 larger vacations every year, so we always have a travel adventure that’s "coming up!"
If you could give a 20-year-old some words of wisdom, what might it be?
Don't rush in to be married or feel like you are being forced to grow up too soon. Also, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!!! Put money away and don't touch it. You'll need it as you get older.
And the most important question: Who was your favorite singer/band growing up?
Wow. Tough one. As I was a New Jersey native, it would have to be Bruce Springsteen.
